The first Open Studios event in 2018 has been held on 26th of January. The projects were presented by our residents Hiroko Tsuchimoto (JP/SE), Hans Christian van Nijkerk (NL/NO), Pål Gusdal Jomås (NO/CA), Rasma Noreikytė (LT), Eva Eich (DE), Pedro Hurpia (BR), Teodora Nikčevic (ME).

Hiroko Tsuchimoto (JP/SE) and Hans Christian van Nijkerk (NL/NO) have been working on the ongoing project called “Discomfort”. The artists investigated different aspects of discomfortinthree integral parts:a performative dinner, a site-specific installation “Beware!” and video “Eight Great Ways to Fill Your Existential Void” that is available here. Pål Gusdal Jomås (NO/CA) has presented two looped video portraits. His curiosity of a woven blanket, from Hjørundfjorden, Norway, woven by his great-great grandmother in the 1880’s and is the starting point for this project. Pål is using the woolen fabric as a garment, but also as a treatment of abstraction where portraiture, language, pronunciation, identity and colours come together. Rasma Noreikytė (LT) and Eva Eich (DE) have been working on a project “Dialogue Through the Rope”. The inner dialogue that was carried out by using a piece of found rope has resulted in dust prints and a methodology that originated from collaborative process. Fictional and non-fictional narratives interconnect in the artworks by Pedro Hurpia (BR). His project “The Invisibility of Huge Things” elaborates whether the construction of optical and sound devices as well as the re-creation of photographic images or records could be treated as documents that prove a legitimate narrative within a constructed reality. Teodora Nikčevic (ME) has been focusing on the horizon representing an existential line as well as the idea of the world’s end which serves as a projection of an unstable and undefined state.
